On February 7th, San Clemente, California’s favorite rock/reggae band Tunnel Vision, along with Daniel Delacruz (DELA) of Slightly Stoopid, will attempt a summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania, Africa. Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest peak on the continent of Africa. It stands at 5,895 meters or 19,351 feet. The expedition team will consist of more than 350 individuals. The goal of the expedition is to bring awareness to the decimation and ultimate extinction of the elephant herds on the continent of Africa, simply for their tusks. Annually, 34,000 elephants are poached simply for the value of their tusks. The world loses one elephant every 15 minutes. At the current rate, the African elephant will be extinct in a decade.
Upon summiting Mount Kilimanjaro, estimated February 15th. Tunnel Vision and DELA will perform a concert, streamed live through Facebook, establishing the highest, live streamed concert in history. DELA will attempt to perform the highest, live streamed saxophone solo in history. Following the descent of Kilimanjaro, Tunnel Vision and DELA will collaborate, on a song, with the tribes of the Serengeti, bringing awareness to the horrors of elephant poaching. Proceeds from the sale of the song, expedition merchandise, and donations from both corporate and private individuals will benefit organizations aiding the anti-poaching campaigns including The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, WILDAID, International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and several other local African aid foundations.
The expedition will be led by world-renowned expeditioner Johan Ernst Nilson. Johan has undertaken 42 expeditions in over 145 countries bringing awareness to environmental issues. Johan is most notable for his record-breaking Pole2Pole expedition. A carbon neutral expedition from the South Pole to the North Pole. Johan has successfully completed his 7 Summits Campaign, summiting the 7 highest summits on all 7 continents, including a successful summit of Mount Everest. Relevant to this expedition, Johan led an expedition titled “Not A Walk in The Park”. Johan trekked across the Serengeti National Park, roughly 500 kilometers, or 310 miles and dismantled over 100 elephant poaching traps and filmed the devastation left behind by the illegal poaching.
Once we complete our expedition, we will begin working on our media platforms, donation platform, and merchandise sites. Make sure you follow us Facebook and Instagram to follow our climbWe want to accomplish our goals first before we ask for your donations and support. Help us save our elephants……
